"There is something lovely about men
of
a certain age, in shorts..."
The CODGERS world premiere took place at Riverside Theatres, Parramatta, on Friday August 1st 2008 in front of a packed and happy house of 600 - the biggest opening there ever - and the response was fantastic. The critics couldn't help but be enthusiastic:
"charming, empathic...delightful...a sterling job...bound to tickle the osteoporotic funnybones...Wayne Harrison has directed a gift of a cast to great effect... "
Australian Stage Online
"One thing this play does have is heart. It is the wit and warmth of the script, the ability of the characters to laugh at themselves..."
Daily Telegraph
"...a heart-warming comedy...Wayne's Harrison's production...is very nice to watch...and hits its emotional marks with ease...there's much lovely stagecraft on show...which lifts this work into satisfying territory, a sense you're in the hands of skilled experts who really do know what they're doing, how to do it and why."
Sydney Morning Herald
Word of mouth and the Steady Lads-assisted marketing networks broke Riverside box office records - and audiences have adored it:
"I'll bet David Williamson will be wishing he had penned it!"
