How we got it up – CODGERS
performance history

CODGERS  was first aired at a one-off public reading for an invited audience at the Ensemble Theatre in August 2006. The  overwhelmingly enthusiastic response meant we knew we had to take it further…

The Rodney Seaborn Playwright’s Trust agreed, and bestowed upon Don their 2006 Playwright’s Award for CODGERS. Along with support from our sponsors, this enabled a seven-performance workshop season, preceded by two-weeks rehearsal, to be mounted at Riverside during NSW 2007 Seniors Week.

The purpose of this was to improve the quality of the script and expose it to its intended audience – the season sold out a week before opening with enough surplus enquires to have filled another seven houses.

Subsequently, Riverside Productions and Steady Lads joined forces and brought the fully produced world premiere season of CODGERS to Parramatta for 11 performances from July 30th 2008.

Then  followed a NSW regional tour to: Hothouse Theatre in Albury/Wodonga; Griffith Entertainment Centre; Manning Entertainment entre, Taree; the Jetty Memorial Theatre in Coffs Harbour; NORPA’s Starcourt Theatre, Lismore; Glen Street Theatre, Belrose  and Laycock Street Theatre, Gosford.

Alongside Steady Lads, Christine Dunstan Productions are now the new co-producers of CODGERS for 2010.

“CODGERS deserves to be seen in every theatre, town hall, village meeting-place in the country and will bring joy, I believe, to everyone who has the good fortune to find it coming their way.”
Alan Seymour, playwright (The One Day of the Year)
